An announcement!

Standard

Hi, everyone!

Well… it’s been a little over a week, and I’ve finally told all the people I needed to tell in advance, so I think it’s time I let you guys know my big news.

Submerge, the story you’ve previously known as ‘bowler hats’ or the Bowler Hat project, is being published by Manifold Press! The announcement on their part won’t be for a little while yet, but it’s happening.

I sent my first query to a publisher at the age of 14, and eleven years later I feel like I’ve achieved that dream of seeing my name on the cover of a book (or I will, when it’s released)! I’m also really pleased to be working with Manifold – as long-time readers may know, they published A Pride of Poppies and are a joy to work with. They’ve also been very patient with me during the editing process, and the book is so much better for it.

That’s all for today, but I’ll talk to you soon!

Editing… and rewrites

Standard

Hello, everyone!

I’ve been looking through the first draft of a manuscript I wrote almost a year ago, and gods, that needs editing. By editing, I actually mean rewriting. Don’t get me wrong, the basic structure is there and there are some little snippets I really like – but most of it is very obviously my initial attempt to work out where the story was going as I went.

The good news, of course, is that I now have a better idea of what needs to happen and when – and my writing has improved over the last year, too. The bad news is that it’s a sequel, and things have changed in the preceding story that are now incompatible with this (awful) draft, so I’ll have to be very careful as I rewrite it not to copy those inconsistencies across!

Talk to you soon!

Oops!

Hi everyone!

I’m out of practice at this blogging thing, so sorry I’ve missed a couple of days. I’ve been working hard (and juggling many, many things) so blogging fell by the wayside for a bit. On the plus side, I may have a little announcement to make some time in the next week, so watch this space!

Right, I’m off to ignore my other responsibilities and read for a bit.

Talk to you tomorrow!

…And a good day

Standard

Hi everyone,

Well, yesterday was rubbish, but today was pretty good. I mean, I think the only words I wrote up to this point were my name a few times (and the locker number I’d taken at work) but apart from that, very good.

All those problems from yesterday are still there, but today I decided to indulge in some good old-fashioned denial and focus on the good things.

Tomorrow is counselling day, so I’ll have to un-deny things then. But for now, life is pretty darn good.

Talk to you tomorrow!

A bad day

Standard

Hi everyone!

This week has been a really good one, emotionally, after a few I would describe as wobbly at best. Today my luck ran out. It was just one of those days where everything goes wrong, from missing a bus to twisting your wrist – and the less said about my trip to the Jobcentre, the better.

As a result, I only got a few words of outlining done today, for the script I’m trying to write. But tomorrow is another day – and the day after that, crucially, includes a counselling session. Today made me realise that I actually have a few more problem areas than I knew – but now I do, I should be able to start working on them.

Talk to you tomorrow!

Really back now!

Standard

Hi everyone!

I know, I know. “I’ll be blogging more regularly from now on,” I said, and then disappeared for days. I got distracted by working on a Bowler Hat book, and of course by celebrating becoming a professional writer for real when I got paid (for the first time, for writing) at the weekend. So I apologise. I’m back now!

Just to update you on what I’ve been working on while I’ve been quiet: I’ve started volunteering in a charity shop, I’ve been on a course and started working towards setting up my own business, and I’m working on a screenplay for a fantasy webseries. It’s all go, as ever!

I’ve also been working on my submissions forĀ A Certain Persuasion, a collection of LGBTQIA stories based on Jane Austen’s novels. They’ve now been accepted, and I’ve even been paid (hence officially being a professional!) so I can’t wait for the release date in November. I’ll bring you more information nearer the time, as soon as I get it!

Well, I’ve run out of things to say for now, so I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Thanks for sticking with me through the hiatus!

Coming back!

Standard

Hello, everyone!

I know it’s been ages, and I’m sorry – but I’m going to try to get back to blogging regularly from now on. So I’ll have to think of something to talk about…

Talk to you soon!
