A Busy Week… Not Writing.

Standard

Hi everyone,

Well, I’ve written a bit of fanfic this week but I’ve been so busy, tired and – frankly – emotionally drained that I haven’t managed to get a lot else done. I did go and see the new Beauty and the Beast on Friday, so that was a nice day, but other than that I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather since my last blog post. Hopefully I’ll get back to work on my original projects in the coming week.

Talk to you soon!

Chaos reigns

Standard

Hi, everyone!

Well, it seems like everyone in the family is either ill to varying degrees, or stressed out because the others are ill to varying degrees. So I’m afraid I have done no writing in an embarrassingly long time.

I have, however, started thinking about NaNoWriMo, which is speeding towards us again. I’ve been so preoccupied with other things that are happening in November – not least Queer Company 2, which I’m super excited to go to – that I hadn’t really given it much thought. Now, however, I am mid-research into a sort of vague idea I’ve been mulling over, and to be honest I think it might be worth taking a break from Bowler Hat rewrites for a little while anyway. Between the first and second books of the series, I’ve been working on it solidly for about… oh, goodness, it must be about 6-8 months straight, with a break or two to work on A Certain Persuasion (coming soon!) so I think I’m due a break to refresh my mind and think about new characters I don’t know so well. You know when you go on holiday – say camping – with a bunch of people and you’re there for about three weeks and you’ve been cooped up with the same people for way too long and you just can’t be around them any more? That’s how I’m starting to feel about Addie, Gina, Jamie and Miles – so I’m hoping NaNoWriMo will be the equivalent of sloping off to the nearest pub on my own.

Apologies for the lack of blog posts – as I say, it’s been mad around here. I’ll be back when things settle (or at the beginning of October, at the latest).

No writing today…

Standard

Hi everyone!

Well, I didn’t write any narrative today, but I did work on refining my blurb and working towards a good cover design for Submerge. I didn’t expect the things that came after signing a contract to be so tricky, but then again I’ve had much less practice with them than with writing novels. As with anything, you start off rubbish and learn as you repeat the process and try, try again – especially with excellent people to guide you.

That said, I’m wiped, so I’m off to bed now.

Talk to you tomorrow!

A couple of days off

Standard

Hi everyone,

I’ve been missing in action again, I know, but I needed a couple of days to sort out some non-writing stuff and give myself a bit of a rest. Today I wrote, er, eight words.

Tomorrow I shall do better – talk to you then!

Procrastinating…

Standard

Hi, everyone!

I’ve been working on a blurb and thinking about cover design things, lately, and now I’m sort of putting off working on chapter 2 of my redraft of the second Bowler Hat book by updating this blog. It’s not that I don’t want to work on it, just that I’m finding it hard to concentrate on a lot of things at the moment!

I’ve been struggling to keep up a consistent output recently – well, ever since my beloved spreadsheet was lost, actually – so I think I’m going to start that up again. It’s likely that I’ll start with a daily target of 500 words, rather than my old 1k goal, but I do want to get back into that writing habit. I’ll try to include a blog post most days, too, but no promises there as I don’t always have anything particular to say.

Also, one of my lovely writing/publishing friends got some plot bunnies in my head, and now I fear I’m going to have to write a historical romance or two at some point! What a terrible problem to have.

…And a good day

Standard

Hi everyone,

Well, yesterday was rubbish, but today was pretty good. I mean, I think the only words I wrote up to this point were my name a few times (and the locker number I’d taken at work) but apart from that, very good.

All those problems from yesterday are still there, but today I decided to indulge in some good old-fashioned denial and focus on the good things.

Tomorrow is counselling day, so I’ll have to un-deny things then. But for now, life is pretty darn good.

Talk to you tomorrow!

Technical issues

Standard

My laptop is temporarily out of action (at least, I hope it’s temporary) so updates and writing are going to fall by the wayside a bit. I’ll try to keep writing but it may be hard to keep track of word counts for a while…

Talk to you soon.
