Hi everyone,
I’ve been answering some questions about my contribution to Queer Weird West Tales over on Julie Bozza’s blog. Check it out!
And, while I have you here, perhaps you’d like a sneak peek of my story, Set In Stone?
It was an hour later, after Aulus had loaded ten more of his own blocks onto the back of a cart, that he realised Marcus hadn’t moved from his spot in a while. He hurried back to see what the holdup was, and was astonished by what he found.
“Marcus. What are you doing?” But Marcus didn’t look up. Marcus always looked up when Aulus called; he could never ignore him. They shared everything—their meals, their barracks, their hearts. Aulus had long feared the day that Marcus would no longer care to talk to him, the day he decided that their paths led in different directions. He hadn’t thought it would be this day. “Marcus?”
“What?” Marcus jolted backwards, startled, as if he hadn’t even known Aulus was there. Aulus smiled, trying to contain his relief; he knew what it was to become lost in his work, after all. “Peace. I didn’t mean to scare you. What are you doing?”
“What does it look like I’m doing?”
Aulus paused for a moment, assessing the situation.
“It looks,” he ventured eventually, “as if you’re carving something rather more complicated than a stone block.”
